Πάντα ἦσαν Ἔρεβος καὶ Χάος μέχρις Αἰθήρ ἄφθιτος πεπότηται.
Κριὸς θρῴσκει ἐκ πηγῆς πρακτικός, πῦρ ὁρνύμενον κατά κρημνόν,
ἕω δ' ἔαρ ῥέον πρόσω, ὁ Ταῦρος γλαμυρός βρέμη μανικός ἄνευ παύλης,
γελῶν δ' ἄρ' κράζων, Δίδυμοι θαυμάζουσιν πῶς ἡ ἑσπέρα ἄρχει,
οἷος δ' ὕδωρ στάσιμον, Καρκίνος ἐλπίζει ἐν κέλυφει παθητικῶς.
Λέων ἁγει θερμόν ἤματος σύν πόνῳ ἀκαμάτῳ, ἀεί μένων,
καρποί δὲ θέρους κεντέουσι Παρθένον μετ’ ἐρημίαν τοῦ νότου,
Ζυγός δὲ δικαιοῖ τὸ χρῶμα ἁβρόν αέρος, ὀνειροπολῶν ὁδόν μέσην,
κνέφας δύεται, δινούμενον, συμπλεκόμενον, πελόμενον Σκορπίος ψυχρός.
Τοξότης θηρᾷ χαλεπῶς χώραν ξηράν σύν μνήμῃ ἀνατολῆς,
ἐκ δὲ φύλλων χειμῶνος, Αἰγοκέρως ἐπιτάξει ὅ ἕρπει ἐπὶ γῆς,
Ὑδροχόος δ' αὐθάδης ἀσπάζεται τὴν νύκτα, οὐδέν γὰρ ἄτερ τέλους,
φθίσει νότου δὲ ἰλιγγιῶσιν Ἰχθύες, ὄμμασιν ὑγροῖς τῇ πίστει.
Νῦν ἰδοῦ Οὐρανόν καὶ Γαῖαν τε Ἥλῐον καὶ Σελήνην, τὸν κόσμον ὅλον.

(All had been Darkness and Chaos until Breath imperishable darted about.
Aries leaps out from fountain vigorous, fire rousing down the cliffside,
and dawn's spring flows forth, Taurus bleary-eyed roaring frenzied without rest,
and laughing, then crying, Gemini wonders how the west begins,
and like stagnant water, Cancer believes in sensitive shell.
Leo leads the heat of day with toil untiring, forever remaining,
and the fruits of summer sting Virgo with the desolation of the south,
and Libra sets right the graceful complexion of air, dreaming of the middle way,
and dusk sets, whirling, interweaving, becoming cold-hearted Scorpio.
Sagittarius hunts wearily for dry land with memory of the east,
and from the leaves of winter, Capricorn will enjoin what creeps out of earth,
and stubborn Aquarius welcomes the night, for nothing is without end,
and toward the decay of the north Pisces becomes dizzy, eyes wet with faith.
Now, behold the Heaven and the Earth, the Sun and the Moon, the cosmos complete.)
